2025 Plein Air Paint Out! & Online Gallery

Every year, since 2019 (excluding 2020) , Pacific Northwest Art School (PNWAS) has celebrated the art of Plein Air, or painting outdoors, during the summer. This year, it had taken place August 11-16. If you have not experienced the event, we highly encourage you to visit Coupeville, where the historic downtown streets, and nearby areas on Whidbey, are filled with easels, and painters on a mission to capture the scene before it fades away! Or, better yet, why not join in on the fun next season, and let your creativity flow!

While it has been a slower year at PNWAS, artists get excited for Plein Air. The weather is generally better, the light is gorgeous, and there are countless scenes to put to canvas! PNWAS was pleasantly surprised to see a last minute surge of artists, canvases and paints in hand, eagerly waiting to set up their open air art studio. They had received over 70 artist entries in total, with many submitting multiple pieces, for a total of over 200 unique paintings to celebrate!

Nearly 60 paintings sold that Friday evening’s Gala celebration event, with many more sold throughout the weekend! If you think you missed out, think again! PNWAS is currently hosting an online gallery of the pieces that did not sell yet. I am sure PNWAS, and the artists, more so, would love for you to check it out! It will be up until October 8th, 2025, which is just one month away, so act fast!

We have included a plethora of photos by Matt Nienhuis, of FStopStories, showcasing the week of Plein Air Paint Out!
